Zawadi Connections

Food is a gift. We are making sure everyone receives it.

Zawadi Connections builds community food infrastructure — then deploys it as working solutions into Toronto's food system.

How we build and deploy

Zawadi Connections builds and deploys three interconnected infrastructure systems. Funding builds the systems. Partnerships put them into operation. Communities receive the benefit.

Pillar 01

Grow

Zawadi builds the operating systems local food access requires. The Richview Industrial Kitchen — managed by Zawadi Connections as a licensed community food space.

Pillar 02

Learn

Zawadi builds curriculum systems, then deploys them where they are needed. The Seed Starting & Soil Stewardship workshop — a complete 40-minute curriculum with Seedling Kits — is available to schools, hospitals, and institutions. The Vermicomposting as a Living Classroom program is confirmed for the TDSB and OISE Harvesting Knowledge Conference.

Pillar 03

Gather

Zawadi builds the events infrastructure that turns food into culture and community into movement. The Nomadic Supper is a travelling farm-to-table dinner series. The Eco-Fair at Evergreen Brickworks connects communities with local food producers. Seasonal farm events at Downsview Park open the land to everyone.

Our Mission

We build the infrastructure. You make it possible.

Zawadi means gift in Swahili. At Zawadi Connections, we believe access to fresh, nutritious, locally grown food is a gift every Toronto resident deserves. We build the infrastructure that makes that gift possible — and we make sure it reaches everyone.

Zawadi Connections builds community food infrastructure — then deploys it as working solutions into Toronto's food system. We develop the workshop curricula, manage the kitchen, steward the land, and design the events. Funding builds the systems. Partnerships put them into operation. Communities receive the benefit.
